This privacy policy details how the ‘Maryland Optometric Association, LLC’ (MOA) uses your ‘Personally Identifiable Information’ (PII) online.

Information Collection 

When ordering or registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your name, email address, mailing address, phone number, credit card information, or other details to facilitate your request for service and/or better your online experience. We collect information from you when you place an order, respond to a survey, fill out a form entering information on our site and provide us feedback on our products and services.

Information Protection

Our website and member data has security measures implemented at multiple layers, designed to protect against DDoS, XSS and SQL Injection type attacks, and has explicit policies to block unwanted traffic from within or outside the network. Member passwords are not stored in the database. New and changed passwords are “hashed” using industry-standard encryption techniques. Only hashed versions of passwords are stored. They cannot be decrypted.

These and other security measures maintain the safety of your personal information when you place an order, submit a form, or access your information. All transactions are processed through a gateway provider and are not stored or processed on our servers.

Registration

In order to use certain services on this website, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration a user is required to give certain information (such as name and email address). This information is used to contact you about the products/services on our site in which you have expressed interest. At your option, you may also provide demographic information (such as gender or age) about yourself, but it is not required. We request information from you on our order form. To buy from us, you must provide contact information (like name and shipping address) and financial information (like credit card number, expiration date). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we have trouble processing an order, we’ll use this information to contact you.

Use of Cookies’

We do not use cookies for tracking purposes. We do use cookies to:

• Help remember and process the items in the shopping cart.

• Understand and save user’s preferences for future visits.

• Keep track of advertisements.

• Compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactions in order to offer better site experiences and tools in the future. We may also use trusted third-party services that track this information on our behalf.

Google’s advertising requirements are governed by Google’s Advertising Principles . We use Google We, along with third-party vendors such as Google use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookies) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) or other third-party identifiers together to compile data regarding user interactions with ad impressions and other ad service functions as they relate to our website.

Opting out:

Users can set preferences for how Google advertises to you using the Google Ad Settings page. Alternatively, you can opt out by visiting the Network Advertising Initiative Opt Out page or by using the Google Analytics Opt Out Browser add on.

California Online Privacy Protection Act ‘COPPA’

CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. According to CalOPPA, we agree to the following:

  • Users can visit our site anonymously.

  • Our privacy policy is accessible from the home page of our website, easily found and the link includes the word ‘Privacy’.

  • Users will be notified of any Privacy Policy changes on our Privacy Policy Change

  • Users can personal information by logging in to their account

  • We do not honor Do Not Track signals and Do Not Track, plant cookies, or use advertising when a Do Not Track (DNT) browser mechanism is in place. We also do not allow third-party behavioral tracking

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)

When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13 years old, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, United States’ consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children’s privacy and safety online.

Fair Information Practices

The Fair Information Practices Principles form the backbone of privacy law in the United States and the concepts they include have played a significant role in the development of data protection laws around the globe. Understanding the Fair Information Practice Principles and how they should be implemented is critical to comply with the various privacy laws that protect personal information.
